Life in Space

You know what's cool? Space. You know what else is cool? Photographs of space. You know what is especially cool? When awesome photographs taken by astronauts in space emerge.

Photojojo blogged about these cool scans and I just had to share. These recently restored scans are from photographs taken using a Hasselblad camera during the 1965-1966 Gemini missions. I picked out some of my favourites.

How amazing do these look? Space never seems all that real when you look at it but just wow. Look at it! Space is the coolest.

Things to be excited for...

I unashamedly love Wes Anderson. Thus I am excited for a new Wes Anderson film. Even though a UK release date hasn't been given. Yet.

A pair of lovers flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.

If only life were as beautiful as a Wes Anderson film.

The LC-A+'s first roll

As mentioned previously I ran the first roll of film through my LC-A+ last week. My dad took my nephew and me to the Blue Planet Aquarium and this felt like a good chance to test run my LC-A+. Took the roll to get developed today and to be honest, I'll a little disappointed. I certainly haven't got the delighted, happy in my pants feeling that seeing the first roll from my Olympus OM10 gave me. There's a couple of good shots but the majority are quite the blurry mess. The LC-A+ is touted as being brilliant in low light situations and I'd even put an ISO800 film in; Lomography's own ISO800 in fact. I suppose the fault lies with my focusing abilities then really. I didn't get the distances right or didn't keep my hands steady enough.

Here's the shots that did work out alright.

Yeah that's right, out of a roll of 36 only 3 were in focus. Not good odds. I guess since the LC-A+ is more automatic I need to learn to judge my focus distances better. There are a few slightly acceptable blurry shots that I kind of like as well.

So not great but I'm not deterred. Just means I've a little learning to do with my LC-A+. I'm still mega excited to own it and look forward to all the adventures I'll get to have with it along the way.
