M.I.A

Sorry for lack of posts. Just not quite feeling the blog thing right now. Or the life thing either. Expect updates after the weekend though as I'm off to Milton Keynes for super fun friend times.

Lomo Wednesday - hodachrome

Hey check it out, this is a scheduled post! No way! This is pretty spectacular for me because although I'm somewhat one to be organised I never thought I'd schedule a blog post. But since Lomo Wednesday is supposed to be a feature and I won't be around on Wednesday until late at night (when I will want to sleep) to make it and post it I figure I should schedule. Cool story bro.

There'll be a blog post on Wednesday evening's antics another time.

Right well onwards. Today's Lomohome belongs to hodachrome. This talented chap hails from Japan and I found his lomo home via the Lomography Twitter's tag of the day. It's a useful resource that tag business. The exact photograph that got me looking at his Lomo home is below. Followed by some choice favourites.

JUST LOOK AT THAT DOLPHIN PHOTOGRAPH! Can you believe that shot? It's like something out of a dream. Once again I've focused on someone who predominantly uses the LC-A without meaning to but this camera seemingly produces some of the best shots. Just look at these gorgeous saturated colours! There are just so many photographs to like in hodachrome's Lomohome. Interestingly enough I'd say about half his albums are shot using redscale film, the majority of which is handmade. Isn't that mad skills? The church and the sunset photographs were taken with redscale if you weren't sure. Aren't they super? I've seen some redscale photographs that entirely put me off the idea of experimenting with it but hodachrome's redscales work really nicely. Maybe it's a choice of subject matter as well. Sunset beach shots do look especially nice in redscale. All these photographs are outstanding and there are tons more to be found amongst hodachrome's albums. With each lot of fantastic photographs I find that the LC-A is responsible for I find myself lusting for it more and more. May well treat myself with the next lot of student loan.

Anyways go check out hodachrome's Lomohome. Especially the Dolphin's Dream album. It's insanely cool. If you don't like some of these photographs then I have nothing more for you. You can get away now. But let me know if you do like them! Until the next Lomo Wednesday folks...

Sentimental Sunday.

My mum recently gave me 4 packets of old photographs, all of which contained photos of me as a baby. I really love looking through old photographs from my childhood and my mum's life before us kids. She's got a suitcase full of them which she keeps asking me if I want. Now I did originally last night write up a huge post featuring a selection of some of the photos I got given but felt the post was too big and the fun of looking at these old photos was lost. So I've decided I'll make a Sunday feature of posting some photographs from my childhood or my family's past. It's a little self indulgent of me but then again it is my blog.

So here we go.

I am about 2 days old in this photograph. You possibly wouldn't think it to look at me though. I was a big baby, a 10lb bundle of annoyed. Seriously I scowled at my mum when I was handed to her right after being born.

My brother always wanted to carry me around apparently but mum didn't think his 5 year old arms could handle fatty me. So there's a lot of photos of me on his lap or lying down next to him. My dad looks so funny to me in this photograph.

Look at the pure adoration in my tiny eyes. I idolised my brother when we were kids. Mum's told me numerous times that when most kids started to talk I didn't bother. My brother would do all my talking for me. He told my parents when I wanted something and what it was I wanted. Usually this was also a way for him to get things and it worked pretty effectively.

Well that's it for the first Sentimental Sunday. I know I've enjoyed myself. I suspect you might not have. But I do hope it encourages you to look through some of your own family photographs and have a little sentimental moment of your own.

Lomo Wednesday - upic

Sorry I've been absent for a week. Things haven't been too dandy on the home front so haven't felt much like blogging. However I have returned and shall hopefully continue with some regular posts from here on out.

After last week's post I decided I'd make a bit of a feature of showing off some of my favourites Lomographers. These posts will always be on a Wednesday hence Lomo Wednesday!

So this week's Lomographer is upic. I can't say I remember rightly how I found upic's Lomohome. I suspect it was through the Lomography Twitter as they do a camera/film/tag of the day post every day. Not that any of that matters. The important thing here is the photographs. So on we go to some examples. As with last week these are my favourites.

I'm sure you can see from this selection of photographs why I picked upic to feature here. Her photographs are ridiculously beautiful. Just look at those colours! I'm not sure how exactly she gets colours as rich as she does, a combination of film choice and perhaps cross processing? The majority of these were taken on the LC-A+ which I'm trying not to show a preference for but can't quite avoid. It just seems such a fantastic camera to work with. It's hard to believe a film camera can produce such gorgeous photographs but upic's Lomohome is further proof of the LC-A's prowess. It was really hard for me to limit my selection to the few seen here. I seriously encourage you to check out her Lomohome because she has a heap of albums to browse through including some really great photographs of India. Judging from her albums upic does her fair share of travelling and I think the combination of analogue and travel photography is a match made in heaven.

There we have it, another Lomo Wednesday done. I hope you all enjoy these shots. Check out more of upic's work at her Lomohome - upic at Lomography. Makes you want to hop on the next plane out with nothing but your film cameras and a suitcase of films.

Photo Envy

I've been trying to get myself that little bit more involved in the Lomography community. What this means is that every so often I go on their site and randomly peruse the photos of far more accomplished Lomographers than I. This does little for my self esteem but plenty for my photographic inspiration.

Now I'm not normally one to single someone out and toot their horn but I cannot resist for this particular Lomographer.

I'll be honest I don't know whether Yochan is male or female but he/she is undeniably a cracking photographer. Here are some of my favourites.

These middle two shots get me so excited for snow this winter! I'm not one for being cold but who can resist crisp, white, beautiful snow?

Aren't these just gorgeous? I really need to get out there more with my Diana F+. Not that any of these were taken on a Diana F+. I think they've mostly been done on the LC-A+, my dream camera. But boy do these photographs make me want to go for long walks in the countryside armed with my bag of cameras.

You can see more of Yochan on Lomography. If you're a fan of Lomography in general then you should definitely be cruising that site on a regular basis. Despite the Lomography branding they're fans of all analogue photography so it's a little slice of heaven for film geeks like me.

Head over heels

Cliche title but undeniably apt.

What do you do when you fall in love with a pair of shoes and have to build an outfit from the bottom up?

I'm not normally one for heels. In fact I'm firmly of the belief that I'm not suited to heels. I've never learnt to walk in them properly and overall prefer comfort to style. How unstylish of me. But I am in love with this heels from New Look - Block Heel Shoe Boot - they're £19.99 and in that berry red that I simply can't resist currently. Ha see what I did there?

Anyways, I may well buy these ahead of a planned weekend in Milton Keynes. So what do I buy to complete the outfit?
